Seth in Seven Strokes

Seth Seth Sethdrawn on my iPad

My life is becoming more of a sit com and I thought I would do a series of sketches to illustrate a day in the life of moi to share with you.  To start off, I am working on capturing  Seth in cartoon character.

The things about Seth that I felt I had to capture were:

His opinionated profile

His crazy curly hair

His potentially explosive grin

His quick eyes

His unexpected sense of humor

The Seven Stroke Sketch

I wrote a post about how to tell people who you are in seven words or less.  You are so much more vivid and memorable in a short sentence that captures the essence of who you are.  The same is true in a sketch.  When you have to capture an image in a few strokes, every line matters, every space provokes and there is room for the viewer to fill in what’s missing.

The sketches of Seth I did on my iPad were done in less than a few minutes.  But it will take hours of practice to make them look effortless and wonderful.  Funny how that is.

How do you create your character with a penstroke?  How can a squiggle convey your unique personality?  What about you really says who you are?  These are the questions I ask myself when I am sketching someone.

So for all of you who want to present an image of yourself to the world that is instantly recognizable and, more importantly – unforgettable – be prepared to spend time deciding what your seven strokes of genius are.

Who are you?

Can you tell me in seven words or less?

Now to add to that request is this:  Can you show me in seven strokes or less?

Here are some things to think about:

What is the one thing you want someone to remember about you?  Your laugh, your wit, your hair….

How do you want people to describe you?  Funny, earnest, wears a lot of black…

Is there something you want to be known for?  Throwing a great party, no sense of direction, having cool playlists…

I can’t wait to find out what you think of Seth when you meet him.

Word of mouth is the best way to share, don’t you agree?
