Something Blue: A Style Note for You

With some people it begins with a pattern, and with others it begins with a stitch, but whenever I fall in love, it always begins with knitting.  I have made many mistakes falling in love and rued many of them but never the knitting that went along with them.

I have an article going up on Blue Avocado today about being an executive director who knits that I think you’ll enjoy.

For those of you in the nonprofit world, I’m sure Blue Avocado needs no introduction.  But if  you are new and want a taste, these are some of my favorite features –  Board Cafe, Nonprofit Finance and Strategy, and Word on the Street.

And to Blue Avocado readers stopping by, I hope you will feel right at home.   Take a peek at some of my style note videos I have posted for people who change the world.  Or visit the archives to read about how to get into an art gallery, why confidence is sexy and knitting social media strategy.

Another New York winter is over, a short but sweet spring will follow leaving you a slim window of time to unzip your linings and catch spring fever.  You might also fall in love.

I confess.  I have fallen head over stiletto heels in love.

From Thursday, April 8th to Sunday, April 11th, I will be taking a shoemaking class with Llorraine Neithardt. Check out her workshops and shoe gallery.

For our first session, we were instructed to bring in sketches, dreams and inspiration.  And of course, I will be bringing my knitting.

Something blue.  I am envisioning a pair of mules in a sinfully soft azure blue leather with some lacing across the front and perhaps around the ankles as well.  Fabulous.  And what would I wear with such shoes?

A just as fabulous long trapeze tank knit out of some beautiful blue coton mercerise that I fell over and fell in love with in a local yarn store.   I think my Mermaid Tank would be perfect!  Here’s the pattern. This I plan to knit on circular bamboo needles as I travel back and forth from class.  And to wear with my handmade blue shoes for that special moment when all anyone can manage to say is, “Wow!”

My style note is reminder to all of you to create a sense of story, romance and culture to everything about you.  Let the world fall in love with you and your distinct creative energies.

Take your style into your own hands, and feet!
