hi erna
even though that tradition is dying, i feel women are still bound to notions regarding shoes, power and status.  that is one reason i am intrigued by the idea of creating my own shoes.

When I first lived in China for a year in 1979, I saw old, old women who were then in their eighties or nineties who still had bound feet - the last generation.  I do not think there are any left, but there might be still a handful. Such a painful and crippling custom for millions of women for hundreds of years...</description>
